The Health Benefits of Carrots
Carrot juice has tremendous health benefits, which is generally why it is extremely popular among people who want to lead a healthy lifestyle.
1. Prevents cancer. Several studies and laboratory tests have shown that regular consumption of carrot juice inhibits the growth and spread of colon cancer cells in humans. Most studies support the evidence that those who consume 1.5 cups of fresh carrot juice on a daily basis are also less likely to develop colon cancer. The carrot’s cancer protective properties are pinpointed to the presence of polyacetylenes, specifically the falcarinol, which are substances found in carrots. These substances are linked to the carrot’s ability to inhibit the progress of colon cancer cells in the body. Furthermore, carrots are also known for its fiber and phytonutrients, which help to encourage a healthy digestive system.
2. Treat and prevent vision problems. Carotenoids, which are compounds found in carrots, have been tested and proven to be beneficial for vision. A research completed in the Jules Stein Institute at the University of California in Los Angeles found that women who eat carrots less than once per week were more likely to develop glaucoma compared to women who ate carrots twice a week. Glaucoma is an eye condition wherein the intraocular pressure (pressure inside the eye) increase drastically, damaging the optic nerve in the process.
3. Good for the heart. Carrots are known for their antioxidant properties which reduces cardiovascular damage from free radicals and toxins. A clinical test in the Netherlands, which spanned ten years, has shown that participants who had a lesser consumption of carrots were more likely to develop cardiovascular diseases in the long run compared to those who ate carrots more.
