A Diet For Good Blood Sugar Levels
A diet to keep blood sugar levels in good shape is the same diet that everyone should be eating all of the time and not just when they discover they are having problems keeping blood sugar regulated. Blood sugar levels are determined by how well your body uses the glucose it gets from the food you eat to supply tissues and cells needing it for fuel. After eating insulin is released by the pancreas and its job is to move glucose from the bloodstream to the tissues waiting for it. If your diet is too high in sugary foods and simple carbohydrates and too low in fiber and protein more glucose than is necessary to maintain your body will be produced and the excess will either be stored as fat, especially around the belly, or continue to circulate in the blood.
Neither of those is good and chronic high blood sugar can cause health problems starting with damaging the small blood vessels in your body, like those in the eye, and moving on to worse problems if left unchecked. Normal glucose levels are best maintained by eating a diet balanced towards more protein, fiber and vegetables and fewer processed grains and sugary products. This is often the opposite of how we eat and it can be hard to implement these changes. As was said earlier, everyone should eat like this, but few do, so it’s time to become one of the few and leave the many behind.
Exercise is the other part in keeping a normal glucose level, as exercise burns calories and creates an energy deficit needing to be replenished. Burning glucose through exercise leaves less in the bloodstream and allows insulin to do its job of getting it moved out to cells needing it. Leave the many behind and become one of the few, you’ll be glad you did.
