Acne: 3 Home Remedies to Try
Acne can be a serious problem for some people, refusing to go away even when it’s supposed to after adulthood has been reached. It can be one of the more stubborn problems to treat, with each person getting benefit from completely different treatments. In addition to the common Accutane prescription drug, and over-the-counter benzoyl peroxide, there are a few home remedies for acne that has worked almost miraculously for some, even after trying all the major medications.
Many cases of acne can be caused at least partially by allergic reactions to certain foods. The most common ones are of course chocolate and dairy. Other foods that may contribute are caffeinated beverages and foods made of wheat and grain. Some people have tried every prescription and OTC drug on the market, and then found quick relief from something as simple as cutting out some of these foods. Again, it depends on your particular case so it may not be a miracle cure, but certainly worth trying.
Fish oil contains two omega 3 fatty acids, DHA and EPA. EPA in particular is essential for promoting healthy skin, and may help regulate skin oil production and dryness, which in turn may lead to less acne. Modern diets are often deficient in omega 3 fatty acids, so this could be one reason for acne. Other fish oil benefits include a healthier cardiovascular system and lower blood pressure.
Reducing Soap Use
Another idea that many have tried and has worked for some is to stop washing the face with soap and other cleansers. The idea is that daily washing with soap will dry out the skin, leading to the body overreacting and producing even more oil than it would have otherwise. Try just washing your face with hot water daily and skipping the soap.
Again, what is an apparent miracle cure for one acne sufferer will not work at all on another. This is partially because acne has several different compounding causes, such as hormones, genetics, allergies, and other factors. All you can do is try each one and see if it works. The home remedies are probably good to experiment with before moving on to the stronger medications.Acne: 3 Home Remedies to Try,
