So many people today are suffering with some sort of back pain. It may be limited to that small little twinge you feel when you first wake up or it may be so debilitating you’re not able to make it through a normal day without taking some sort of pain killer.  Regardless of where you are, and assuming you have a doctors clearance, one of best things you can do to help with back pain is to engage in some sort of abs exercise.

Your abs are sometimes referred to as your “core” muscles because they’re at the center of your body and play an important role in your overall fitness level. over 50% of your body weight is located above your stomach and must be balanced properly to avoid putting excess strain on your joints.  If you don’t have the needed muscles, your bones are going to be doing all of the support which will cause a lot of pain in those bone joints.  Building up your muscles in your abs or core will help take over a lot of that load and leave your back feeling a lot of relief.

Let me reiterate, you need to make sure you’ve seen a doctor and you’re in good enough shape to do some basic exercises. Start off with some basic crunches and then move up to more difficult exercises such as hanging leg raises. To properly perform an abdominal crunch you need to be laying on our back, on a flat surface with your legs bent at about a 90% angle. Cross your arms over your chest (never behind your head as that puts a lot of strain on your neck). Lift your shoulders up until your shoulder blades are no longer in contact with the ground.  Then move back down in a controlled motion and then repeat.

This is just the beginning of a great abs workout routine which will eventually leave your back feeling under a lot less pressure.  Add to this some great weight loss tips such as eating a balanced diet and engaging in some sort of cardiovascular exercise and you’ll not only have a healthy back, but a rock hard stomach along with a much smaller waist size.
