When people think about the most awful things that they do not want on their bodies, they often associate this with the presence of a double chin. Having a double chin does not look good on anyone. Sometimes, people start to realize that they are fat when a second chin starts to form. Some people may not have this but in some people, this may be very prominent. It is often said that this trait can run in the genes. In order to remove such a bad looking trait in a person, a lot of people often resort to liposuction.

Chin liposuction is not literally the liposuction of the chin. This method consists of sucking out the fat from the neck area just below the real chin. The fat being removed from the neck is responsible for that second chin appearance and if it is removed, it will make the face and the neck have an even distribution of normal fat. The bad thing about the double chin is that it may appear in some people even if they are not necessarily overweight. The fat that is being stored in the body is abnormally being stored in the neck area which is why a lot of people who would undergo this procedure every year.

There are several liposuction techniques in which this procedure can be done. No single liposuction technique is ever “fool-proof” because every method has its own risks. The suction assisted liposuction has been the earliest type of liposuction method used by cosmetic surgeons. The mechanism in which this procedure is done is through the mechanical scraping while spontaneously sucking out the excess fat. This procedure may be done on the chin but it carries a high risk of puncture wounds.

The push-pull motion can be very risky because the area over the neck has limited amounts of skin, fat, and muscle. Anything that is touched by the suction cannula that is not fat will often result to adverse effects such as the formation of bruising, puncturing of the trachea, skin puncture, and neck muscle destruction. Because of the perceived difficulty of the procedure, several surgeons would opt not to use the conventional methods as other appropriate approaches have proven to be more safe and effective.

Another affective approach to liposuction would be the ultrasonic assisted liposuction. Instead of the surgeon mechanically moving or scraping the fat, ultrasonic waves are being used to dissolve them. Even though limited movement is needed in this procedure, it still poses a lot of risks since over exposure to ultrasonic waves may also cause the surrounding tissues to be dissolved. The most common tissues affected may be the skin and the muscles. If this happens, the aftermath of the procedure will produce profound inflammatory effects on the neck and it may restrict the airway and breathing of the patient whenever it is not prevented.

There are several other risks that come with chin liposuction but some of them are not as threatening as the ones mentioned above. The surgeons doing the procedure should inform their patients regarding the risks because there will still be a certain percent of error that could happen in the surgery.
