There are two way to answer the question “Do I need a humidifier?” and the answers to both, while accurate are either long or short. The short answer is that if you use a heater whether it be gas based or in the basement, there are going to be some adverse affects on the quality of the air in your home. There are a number of things that you should consider when it comes to installing a humidifier. First of all the benefits of getting a humidifier in your home. Not only will a humidifier add a lot of moisture to your home, it will add a lot of quality to your living conditions as well. You won’t have to suffer from the problem of getting itchy throats and nasal tracts all through the winter. This is why you need to make sure that you get your doctor’s appointment before you figure out how you’re going to address this problem. The suffering isn’t limited to you or your family only but extends to your pets and your furniture as well. Dry air makes furniture crack and split which means that once you get that heater set up be prepared to spend another $500 on repairing all the damage it causes to every wooden object in your home. Isn’t it much more cheaper and more comfortable to spend $50 on a Vicks humidifier instead?

There is a lot more that goes into getting a humidifier. If you or someone in your family suffers from a prevailing health condition then you need to make sure that you only buy a humidifier that doesn’t spew out white dust. White dust mainly means the white mineral deposit dust that comes out with the humidifier’s mist when you happen to feed it with hard water instead of soft water. There is that and then there is the need for a medicine cup which is always welcome.

If you are considering getting a dehumidifier, you may want to take a look at air purifier / dehumidifier combo machines as you may find them more useful and it would save you from both two separate units.
