The word posture was derived from the Latin word “ponere” which means “to put or place”. Primarily, human posture denotes to how a person carries himself from the attitude of the body as a whole down to the positioning of the arms and legs. It is a soft, non-elastic support garment that provides a secure yet well-fitted binding to the user’s body. It is used with a hook and loop fastener that enables the user to increase or decrease the amount of pressure and support. It should be used alongside lifestyle modifications and exercises to avoid poor positioning during these activities. It is typically advised by health care professionals for both adults and kids.

It works by applying constant pressure to the muscles, strengthening them and forcing them to be in the correct posture. Over a period of time, the muscles of the back will willingly corrects its own self, preventing any slumped shoulder.

Having good posture is important for so many things. First and perhaps the most important is that it facilitates breathing. When you have a good posture, the lungs can expand fully instead of being limited by a slouched back. Second, having a good posture will help you think clearly and concentrate more. When you can breathe properly, more oxygen reaches your brain. Twenty percent of your brain relies on oxygen to work. Hence, the more you breathe, the more active your brain is.

Third, you can avoid developing complications in the future. Bad posture is typically associated with chronic back pains, chest pains, poor blood circulation and increased risk of developing herniated disk. Having good posture can also help you look and feel good about yourself since people with good posture are perceived to be more confident and smarter than their slouching colleagues.

Keeping a good posture may seem difficult but a posture corrective brace can make it easier. Supplement it with exercise and necessary lifestyle adjustments and you will have a good posture to last you a lifetime.
