Facial Hair Removal Options and Procedures for Women
There are a lot of reasons why women experience hair growths on their faces. The reproductive disorder known as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome can be a reason. In fact, 75% of those with this condition develop facial hair that resembles the appearance of a mustache.
Hormonal changes and drug side effects are also reasons for facial hair growth. Furthermore, some people often ignore that hypothyroidism can also be an issue. Although it usually triggers hair loss, it can also lead to excess facial hair.
Since majority of people consider facial hair to be a man’s feature, women acquires a disturbed body image once they have this kind of condition and that is the reason why many women look for approaches regarding facial hair removal. There are a lot of methods that can solve this problem. However, it is important for users to be very carefully in doing these procedures.
1.) Plucking
This is probably the method that people consider to be the safest. Other people consider it as a painless procedure while others feel pain but a tolerable type. But this method also has its own side effects which include scarring, irritation, redness and even ingrown hairs. Furthermore, its effectiveness ranges between 2 and 8 weeks.
2.) Bleaching
This is another simple procedure and considered to be quick as well. Aside from being described as a painless process, it has few side effects. You may also buy cheap bleaching kits that are available in many stores. Even though this is a harmless procedure, the user should avoid it once skin irritation occurs.
3.) Shaving
Shaving may be suitable if the part being shaved is the legs. However, since facial skin is somehow delicate, doing this procedure should be implemented with extra care. Side effects of this procedure may include minor cuts, chemical dermatitis as well as ingrown hairs. Moreover, the effectiveness usually takes place between 8 hours and 3 days.
4.) Depilatory creams
Creams that attain facial hair removal function to dissolve the hair follicles. If used correctly, this approach can be totally painless. However, these products often leave a putrid odor after the application. This odor is due to sulfur that is used to dissolve the hair follicles. Even though the smell won’t stay long, still you have to tolerate it. Unfortunately, these creams may also cause chemical dermatitis and anyone allergic to these products should stop using it. The effectiveness can reach up to two weeks.
5.) Laser
This procedure is used mostly by women with fair skin and dark hair since laser beams are attracted by the dark pigment known as melanin. Luckily, white and gray hairs do not seem to be affected by this procedure. However, this procedure is not suggested to those with darker skins since this can distract the laser beams. When this happens, only few hairs will be eliminated and there is even a possibility of skin burning. Laser is also considered to be the most expensive procedure regarding facial hair removal and changes can be noticed after three months from the procedure. Its side effects include decreased or increased skin pigmentation, redness and swelling.
If any of the methods regarding facial hair removal do not seem to work in your case, it is always best to ask your doctor regarding this matter.
