There exist several myths on golfers elbow treatment. According to many people unless you keep your arm in complete rest leaving most of your activities, it cannot be cured. Many are of the opinion that the complete cure for it does not exist. One can only control its severity.
Such myths don’t lead the sufferer anywhere other than confusion. My first advice to you would be to forget all these, relax and approach your problem with a clear, logical and calm mind.
Before digging deep into the treatment for golfers elbow, it is required to know what golfers elbow is. The bony bump at your elbow is known as the epicondyle. The inner side of the epicondyle is known as the medial epicondyle and the outer side of it is known as the lateral epicondyle. The epicondyle is in contact with fore arm muscles by tendons. Sometimes damages occur in these tendons as a result of the overuse of forearm. When the tendons connected to the medial epicondyle are damaged, you feel a pain at the inner side of the elbow. This is known as the golfers elbow. The permanent cure of golfers elbow lies in the rehabilitation of the affected muscles and tendons.
If the problem is not very severe, some easy home remedies will solve your problem. Apply the so called R.I.C.E technique which involves rest, ice, compression and elevation. Keeping the elbow in rest and regular icing using an ice pack is very essential. It is advisable to wrap the ice pack moderately using a bandage to reduce swelling and inflammation. ‘Elevation’ technique involves keeping your elbow above the heart level to reduce swelling.
Anti inflammatory medicines may be used to keep the pain under the limit of your tolerance. However, this does not cure the problem permanently. In an extreme case, surgeries like ossatripsy, cutting the tendon, making an incision, or removing inflamed tissue are done. But these may have some side effects. Some of such negative consequences are infection, a painful scar on the skin surface, loss of blood, nerve damage, damage of blood vessel, weakness in the arm, loss of strength etc.
Exercise is the most effective way of permanent rehabilitation of the affected muscles. Wrist extension, hammering, forearm twist, prayer stretch etc. are among the several existing golfers elbow exercises. But, you should remember that practice of wrong exercise or right exercise in a wrong way may even intensify the problem. It is suggestible that you follow an expert guidance for your exercises for the most effective and safest treatment for golfers elbow.Golfers Elbow - What Is Golfers Elbow and How to Cure It?,
