High blood pressure isn’t called the “silent killer” for nothing. Statistics reveal that this deadly problem affects one in every four Americans. If you’re suffering from high blood pressure or hypertension as it’s scientifically known, it’s important that you understand what constitutes this disease.

When the blood in your body flows through your arteries it does so with a certain amount of pressure. So long as this pressure remains less than 130/85, you’re doing perfectly alright. A blood pressure of 140/90 or above indicates hypertension.

When the blood pressure is high, it tends to pound harder against your artery walls. This not only puts untold pressure on your heart but ends up hardening the arteries as well, resulting in what’s known as atherosclerosis.

Heart and Kidney disease are often derivatives of hypertension. Individuals suffering from hypertension often have no idea about their condition primarily because there are no obvious symptoms or signs.

Research for cures in this field is on-going even in the field of alternate medicines. And the good news is that it has already yielded results in the form of herbs for high blood pressure cures. Having realized the effectiveness of these cures a number of individuals have begun to use herbs for high blood pressure.

What are these herbal cures? Well, you’ll be surprised to hear their names, considering their everyday quality. Garlic is one herb that can be used all by itself but the other concoctions are generally a blend of several different herbs. At the top of the herbs for blood pressure list is a tonic called Cardocare which is formulated by blending in sixteen different herbs that strengthen the heart. Cardocare capsules are also available. Both forms work to regulate the pressure of blood on the artery walls and thereby reducing the stress on the heart.

Another Indian herb referred to scientifically as Terminalia Arjuna or simply Arjuna in common parlance, is also known to be a powerful cure for hypertension. It works by dilating the blood vessels and thereby reducing blood pressure on the artery walls. In this capacity, it helps to protect the heart while simultaneously aiding circulation. The components of T. Arjuna have been found to contain triterpine glycosides as well as Co-Enzyme Q-10, all of which are used for heart-related treatments.

Commiphora mukul is another herb that’s being used for hypertension due to its ability to reduce blood-fat content while simultaneously increasing the good cholesterol (HDL). This herb, commonly known as Guggul, is effective in treating atherosclerosis, cardiac ischemia and even psoriasis. When taken in the pure form this herb performs on par with western medicine however, it does have the advantage of being natural and therefore, free of unwanted side effects, making it a safer option.

Garlic is the last herb on this list that have proved itself in clinical studies so far. Taken either in its fresh form or as a supplement, garlic has the ability to reduce cholesterol content, eradicate plaque and help avoid the formation of blood clots.
