Feeling depressed lately? Lacking the drive to live every day? Feeling like something is missing in your life? People with depression typically feel worthless, guilty, sad, helpless and alone. They don’t have the desire to mingle with other people and they have lost the desire to perform abilities they used to enjoy in the past. Most, if not all, have suicidal ideation or suicidal attempts.

Despite the increasing vigilance of the mental health advocates in addressing the needs of people with depression, there can never be enough resources to cover everyone. Fortunately, the widening scope of the internet and technological advances helped the creation of depression chat rooms all over the internet.

These chat rooms provide opportunity to communicate without the fear of being judged, stigmatized or rejected. It also provides an opportunity to meet people who are also suffering from depression. The members of these chat rooms are usually people who have been treated for depression and recovered. There are also those who are still suffering depression and finding means to combat it. They extend a helping hand and a listening ear to depressed people who merely need someone to talk to during the hard times.

These chat rooms serve as a diary for people who aren’t good at expressing themselves in real life. In a depression chat room, they can tell anything that they are feeling and thinking, dissect emotions and rationalize thoughts. Chat rooms serve as a talk therapy wherein you are given a chance to talk and you can be assured that it will never leave the portals of the chat room.

Chat rooms made for the sole use of depressed patients are also room to ask questions about their condition. Most depressed people are hesitant to approach medical experts and would rather ask those who have experienced it. They want someone who understands what they are going through and where they are coming from instead of someone who is merely looking to treat their depression. These chat rooms can be used to post questions and issues that have been tackled by the depressed community in chatting world. Furthermore, these chat rooms can also offer a possibility to inspire others and touch lives without having to risk identity.

Although these are great supplemental therapies to those that are prescribed by your psychologist, please be reminded that depression chat rooms could never substitute psychotherapies and advice from medical experts. Care in divulging personal information such as full name, address, e-mail account and password in chat rooms should also be observed because evil minds can use it to wreak mischief, scams and pranks.

Having patience, determination and genuine care are important in dealing with people with depression. If dealing with a depressed person is difficult, then think about dealing with a whole group of depressed people in a virtual world. It is necessary to understand and empathize with one another to be able to meet the ultimate goal of depression chat rooms. That is to be able to provide a safe and nurturing haven for depressed people.
