Getting kids to eat more fruits and vegetables can sometimes be a battle. Every father and mother has at one point, came up with different tricks to get their kids to eat healthy food. Sometimes, parents give in to kids eating chicken nuggets all the time, just so they would eat something. Eating healthy food give kids a great mix of vitamins and essential nutrients that they will not be able to get anywhere else. Here are some tips to helping kids eat more fruits and vegetables.
Start Good Eating Habits Early – once children start eating solid food, introduce them to a wide variety of pureed fruits and vegetables. Stay away from junk food, sweets and processed foods for as long as possible. Children are creatures of habit and will stick with foods that they are used to. It is not too late for older children to practice healthy eating, research shows that children will need to try new foods 5 to 10 times before they get a taste for it so persistence and patience are key points.
Pack More Healthy Food – Add a little bit more fruits and vegetables in every meal, fresh tomatoes and lettuce can be added to burgers, mushrooms, peppers, onions and zucchini can be used for pizza and adding fresh fruits in a barbecue will help kids eat more vegetables. Parents need to be creative with presenting healthy food; vegetables and fruits cut in fun shapes, wrapped in pita breads or served separately. Some picky eaters do not want to have different foods touch each other. Another good idea is to make ice popsicles out of fresh fruit juice; this is a healthier way to have frozen treats compared to ice cream bars.
Get Kids Involved – take kids on a “special” field trip to a farmers market, have them name and describe different fruits and vegetables. Let them help in the cooking process, like slicing tomatoes for salsa, making vegetable noodles or preparing a fruit salad. Kids tend to eat more if it is something they prepared.
Finally, how about investing in fruit juicer machine, and letting them help make delicious juicer recipes in the kitchen? Fresh juice is a great and healthy snack, that you can be sure the kids will love. How to Help Kids Eat More Fruits and Vegetables,
