It’s very important to learn how to sleep better when you’re sick both for your health and your general well-being. You already feel awful when you’re sick but if you don’t get enough sleep you’ll only feel worse. It can also make your illness lasts longer because your immune system requires the correct amount of sleep.

If you have allergies to certain medications, you’ll want to be very careful when you’re looking for an over-the-counter drug to help you sleep while you have a cold. One method for learning how to get better sleep is to use special strips that go on top of your nose. These are designed to hold the nostrils open wider and open up the sinuses so you can breathe easier. If you have a very mild cold or just a snoring problem, these can often help. But if you’re really sick, you probably need some type of medicine. If it’s not serious enough to see your doctor, then look for a liquid or pill designed to help you get some sleep while you’re sick. Make sure that you know it’s safe for you to take, and follow the directions.

If you want to learn how to sleep better at night and you don’t like the idea of taking drugs, either over-the-counter or from your physician, then try some remedies that have been around for years. You could purchase an inexpensive bottle of saline solution. These small squirt bottles are designed to be squirted into the nostrils and then blown back out as you blow your nose. Many people who suffer from allergies or have a mild cold use those to help them clear the nostrils and breathe easier before they try to go to sleep. Other people go one step farther and use a neti pot. This is an ancient remedy that requires you to pour salt water in one nostril so that it runs out the other and cleans the mucous and impurities out of your sinuses as it does. These can be purchased inexpensively and are perfectly safe as long as you follow the directions.
