Panic attacks can happen any time. There is really no sure way to predict when they will happen and you cannot waste your entire life sulking in your room for fear of panic attacks. Panic attacks are very frightening even if you are at home safe. They are especially frightening when you are on the road driving. You will get shortness of breath anxiety among many other things. You certainly do not want to end up being injured from an accident. What are you going to do when you are travelling at 60 miles on the road and you have a panic attack? How to stop panic attacks while driving?

Before you will be able to successfully stop an attack, you need to understand first how it works. Things which you experience during panic attacks are brought about by the fight or flight response of your body. Panic attacks are a result of the brain sending signals to the body which says there is danger or no real danger.

The key to stopping panic attacks is to stop the signals to the brain. You must distract your brain by assigning new tasks. You must distract it.

When you are driving and you are about to have panic attacks, you need to pull over and stop. You need to reduce the chances of colliding into another vehicle. This will also reduce the effects of a perceived threat. Be as safe as you can be.

You must be certain that what is happening is a panic attack and not a heart attack. Tell yourself that you are not going to die and that you are not going crazy.

Learn to control your breathing. When people have panic attacks, they often take shallow rapid breaths but this will not help you at all. You need to take deep, slow breaths. You can learn many breathing exercises from yoga.

Distract your brain. Think of other things which can occupy your mind. The more you think about panic attacks, the more difficult it will be for you.

Do these things when you are driving and you think you are having a panic attack and you will be safe.
