Insomnia: Finding A Natural Cure
There are numerous insomnia cures that can be found in nature. Some of them can be found in your kitchen or growing in your yard.
One sleep remedy is Californian poppy aka Eschscholzia californica. This is an orange flower that can grow in any garden as an annual. This poppy has a known sedative affect and is milder than the red poppy, which is a source of opium. Therefore, it doesn’t have the side-effects associated with more potent poppies. You can use the Californian poppy dried in an infusion or fresh. Drink the infused water in the evenings or before sleep is needed. An added side benefit from using this poppy, can be increased concentration and memory.
Another flower used in insomnia treatment is cowslip. It is harder to find in the United States, as it grows best in Europe and Asia. It has been used as a tea for centuries for helping people get to sleep. Take a heaping teaspoon of leaves from the plant and boil tem in ¼ liter of water for 3 minutes. Drink before going to sleep.
Lime blossom is also a great remedy for insomnia symptoms. A common cause of insomnia is tension and stress. Lime blossom is very effective at relieving tension and soothing nerves, making it a beneficial herb for assisting in sleep. This herb can be drank in a tea and can also be infused in a bath for full body relaxation.
We frequently see it on TV, but having a glass of warm milk and honey at bedtime really can help relax a person before they go to bed. Scientists don’t know for sure how much the tryptophan in milk actually helps induce sleep or that simply the routine of drinking it at bedtime helps us psychologically. In any case, it seems to help many beat the struggles of insomnia.
Since everyone is different, it is always good to keep trying the various methods that have worked effectively for others in their struggle to sleep. Eventually, you will find the right one for you and lie awake throughout the night.
