Kidney Stones Symptoms – Mostly Pain!
If you ask anybody who has had to pass a kidney stone they are likely tell you it is the most painful thing they have experienced. Some women have even likened it to giving birth. The chances are if you are reading this article thinking you may have kidney stones symptoms, you are probably experiencing pain to the level that will make it difficult to even sit at the computer and concentrate!
One of the main problems with kidney stones is that they usually deliver no or very subtle symptoms while they are growing inside the kidney. At this point in their development they will remain attached to the inside of the kidney wall and cause no pain, a little blood in the urine now and then may be the only indicator of their existence. Some people may be alerted to the presence of a kidney stone if they are having an x-ray for some other reason and incidentally make the discovery. If you are one of these lucky people then you may be able to limit or even free yourself of future painful symptoms by using natural remedies for kidney stones symptoms.
However, the majority of people with kidney stones will only find out they have them when the pain hits! It is when a kidney stone detaches from the inside of the kidney wall and makes its way into your urethra (the tube leading from your kidney to your bladder) that the pain begins. The pain often starts as a mild ache in the lower back and/or side that quickly accelerates into intense pain, so intense in fact that some people actually pass out.
The source of this pain is the result of the natural flow of urine becoming blocked off by the kidney stone while it is in the urethra. Urine gets backed up and causes the kidney to swell. This is why the pain starts as an ache and develops into intense pain as the kidney continues to swell more and more. The stone will also move a little at a time as the pressure of urine forces it forward. This will be a short lived relief because some urine will pass and the pain will lessen only to rebuild again until the next movement of the stone. For this reason the pain often alternates between moderate and intense.
If reading this article your think you have the symptoms of a kidney stone then visit you doctor immediately and make sure you have a relative or friend to help you get there. In most cases the doctor will prescribe pain medication and tell you to drink lots of water to help put pressure on the stone to help pass it more quickly.
