Migraines are one of the most nagging and frustrating types of headaches to have to deal with. Millions of people worldwide suffer from them. This affects them but also their families, friends and co-workers. This is more of a problem than for the individual alone. The question is, “how can you get migraine relief?”

Some people are open to alternatives to just taking medicine. In some cases, it may feel as though medicine or drugs are your only option. There are a variety of medicines that include antidepressants, OTC meds and even procedures like shock therapy and injections or surgery are offered. You might also consider more conservative therapies first. This will be discussed in a moment.

Migraines can be very debilitating. Many extreme measures have been taken in response to this affliction, suicide has even been reported in chronic migraine sufferers. This is truly sad and unnecessary. If you feel like this, please seek immediate assistance.

There are basically two different classes of migraines: those with an aura and those without. The aura can be a variety of physical or emotional and sensory experiences that basically warn of an impending migraine attack. They can include visual disturbances, noise sensitivity, cravings and other strange symptoms. Triggers for migraines can vary from foods to environmental and chemical causes. While genetics play a role, we are learning more about what leads to migraines each passing year.

Now, besides drugs, what about other treatment choices? You may wish to begin treatment that is more conservative. You could pay closer attention to your diet and make sure you avoid the triggers just described. You may also wish to explore chiropractic as an option.

Many people are aware of chiropractic, but didn’t realize that it could help with migraines or headaches. Many just associate chiropractic with your back. Chiropractic is by scope and nature a drug-less healing art. Underlying factors about your physical structure and other neuromuscular components will be addressed by your chiropractor to determine if they are contributing to your migraines. Some techniques are more physical in nature, while others are more gentle.

There are about 60,000 doctors of chiropractic (D.C.s) in the United States. There is sure to be someone near you who can assist you or your loved one. If you like the idea of a gentle approach, then consider Network Chiropractic as a great option.

Gilbert chiropractor, Dr. Michael J. Funicello, has been serving patients in the Phoenix-metro area since 1998 and has had great success helping people with a variety of headaches.
