Rollo May quotes, “Depression is the inability to construct a future”. If someone is depressed, his interest in things which he usually finds interesting and enjoyable is diminished. He even displays a sense of hopelessness, pain and misery. What basically is mild depression? Mild depression is a chronic depression of which the symptoms are not as severe as that of a severe episode. It is also known as dysthymic disorder. How can it be identified as such? According to Psychology information online, the depressed feelings must be present almost every day, for at least two years in a row. In the event that it does not last that long, it may not be qualified as mild depression but normal sadness.

Depression varies from person to person but it is characterized by some common signs and symptoms. The number of symptoms and the length of time it lasts determine the intensity of your depression. If symptoms are getting more and more disturbing and disabling, it is time for you to seek help. A person who suffers from mild depression becomes helpless and hopeless. You think that you have no more reasons to live longer. You lose interest in daily activities. You become numb and do not feel pleasure out of doing anything anymore. Your former hobbies, pastimes, social activities or sex seem to be uninteresting to you. Most sufferers lose appetite and weight. However, weight gain is also a symptom as long as there is more than 5% change in weight in a month. Insomnia (inability to fall asleep) and hypersomnia (oversleeping) may also indicate depression.

Other symptoms include irritability and restlessness. You lose energy and you feel so worthless and guilty. You look down on and disrespect yourself after making even a small and simple mistake. Since mild depression is a mental disorder, it causes loss of focus or concentration and you find it difficult to make wise decisions and remember things. You experience headache, back, muscle and stomach pains. Three ways to beat mild depression include cultivating supportive relationships with family and friends, getting regular exercise and sleep and eating healthy foods to naturally boost self- esteem.

The aforementioned mild depression treatments are just 3 of the few things you can do for yourself. Managing stress can be an effective way to get over certain depressions. You need to develop good techniques to get rid of being badly affected by stress. Relaxation techniques must also be developed. The best thing you can do is to give yourself ample time for leisure or recreation and relaxation. Through this, your susceptibility to stress can be reduced and thus, mild depression is unlikely to occur or build up. Negative thoughts also play a vital role in the development of depression. It is well for you to as much as possible avoid doing things or thinking about things that can cause unpleasant and disturbing feeling to you. Another effective way is to enable yourself to express, balance and recognize your emotions. However, if things are out of your control and getting worse, it is best for you to seek professional help. No one else can help you better than an expert.
