All of us are vulnerable to diseases and infections. No human being in this world was ever made to withstand anything that the environment has to offer and not get a disease or even a common cold. A person’s vulnerability is determined by how strong or weak his or her immune system really is.

For people who have allergic reactions, their immune system may be hard to determine. It is hard to know if a person with allergies has a weak immune system because of its sensitivity, or a strong immune system because of its hyperactivity. Whatever the case may be, these individuals need to be careful with every step they take because allergens are ever present and ubiquitous in the environment. Among the common and mostly confused type of allergen is the peanut allergy.

This type of allergy is mostly confused with nut allergy. Face it, if you have heard of nut allergy and peanut allergy, you would definitely say that they are the same but they are not. Nut allergy is different from peanut allergy in a way that the former is a type of allergy to tree nuts while the latter is a type of allergy to peanuts which is technically not a tree nut because they belong to a whole different classification which is called as legume beans (these things grow from the ground and not from trees).

People should determine and differentiate the different types of nuts from peanuts. Examples of nuts would include cashews, macademia, chestnut, hazelnuts, acorn, and many more. The peanut on the other hand is the ones that we see on bar dashboards or the ones which we eat while drinking beer. The people who are allergic to peanuts are definitely not allowed to eat them. When they are ingested, the body would see it as a threat because the proteins on the peanut is considered an intruder. Anything that is high in protein can be considered an allergen and peanut is very high in protein. When the body sees the so-called intruder, it mounts a hyperactive immune response causing certain parts of the body to inflame and produce several manifestations.

The manifestations of this kind of allergy would include, sneezing, runny nose, coughing, post nasal drip, the ever popular itching, nausea and vomiting, and a whole lot more. These symptoms are not life threatening but they are very annoying. The only way to manage this allergy is through medications such as antihistamines. A person should always take note of the allergic reactions as, in some case, it would cause some people to inflame the airways. When the airways become inflamed, then breathing would prove to be difficult.

Peanut allergy may be a very common allergy among people. It may be hard to differentiate them from nut allergy but chances are, if you are allergic to one type of protein, then you are most likely allergic to another. Being careful about the things you take in the body should be considered at all times.
