The most common thing that we can hear from our parents is that we should all take our vitamins regularly in order to be healthy and safe from all the diseases that could plague mankind. While this remains to be true, not many people really do it because of the fact that buying vitamins would only be added expense and that these vitamins can be taken from food sources.

Buying vitamin supplements or getting them from food sources is fine either way, as long as the recommended daily intake is met. Vitamins are essential amino acids that must be absorbed from a dietary sources. There are two ways to classify vitamins, these are the water-soluble and the fat-soluble. Water-soluble vitamins can be absorbed by membrane transport proteins which in simple terms mean that they can be absorbed in fluids unlike that of fat-soluble products which can be absorbed in the fat deposits of the body. Knowing what type of vitamin is necessary so that we may be able to know how they work and what purpose they serve in our bodies. In water-soluble vitamins, the most common and more familiar are the B-complex vitamins. These vitamins are used in the body in a way that they play a big part in cell metabolism. Vitamin B is further divided in to twelve subtypes and all of them are distinct from each other in chemical structure. These type of vitamins are very important to us because they support and increase the rate of metabolism in times when the body needs energy the most. In stressful and life maintaining situations, vitamin B can aid in the production of energy by helping other hormones in producing energy through faster food breakdown. The increase in cell metabolism also causes the maintenance of healthy skin and muscle. Good cell function can always be manifested in skin integrity and the metabolism of food intake can lead to faster muscle regeneration contributing to better tone.

Vitamin B also enhances the immune and nervous system functioning. It keeps the body’s immune response sharp from invading microorganisms through the promotion of cell growth and division including red blood cells. These vitamins can also contribute to better functions of body coordination and increased mental functioning as in thought, focus and concentration. More importantly, this vitamin can also prevent the risks of certain types of cancer such as pancreatic cancer. This only prevents cancer only if vitamins were taken as food and not in tablet forms.

These types of vitamins should be taken on a daily basis in order to obtain its full benefits. Since these are water-soluble, they do not store themselves in fat to be released at a later time but instead they are excreted in urine thus giving it a yellow to orange color. It is very important for us to know the functions of these vitamins so that we are made aware of the benefits that they bring to the body. Your body may be working well now, but if you took vitamins daily then your body will be able work to its optimal level.
