The borage or famously known as starflower is given its name due to its perfect five narrow pointed petals that definitely resembles the appearance of a star. Starflower oil is collected from its seeds and these seeds contain a fatty acid known as gamma linolenic acid or GLA. This important fatty acid functions by being converted into a hormone known as prostaglandin E1 (PGE1). PGE1 has numerous benefits that can provide to the body. These benefits include anti-inflammatory properties that are useful for blood thinning and dilation.
Ever since the Roman era, starflower oil has already been utilized due to its medicinal capabilities. According to their research, starflower oil suppresses tumor growth which is the starting point of cancer. Starflower oil is known to promulgate skin care. When in the form of supplements, it can decrease the signs of skin aging. Furthermore, it can also prevent skin dryness and can even treat psoriasis.
