To see and understand the effect of a protein diet, we have to understand how our body gets its energy supply. Through our daily intake of food, we get carbohydrates, fats, and proteins in our body. The carbohydrates and fats are the ones who supply our body with enough energy to function properly. The protein are the workers for repairing, maintaining and building tissue in our body.

Burning of fat versus fats?

In ”normal” situations our body will, in the first place, burn carbohydrates to get our energy supply up to par. People can view carbohydrates as the  main bank account. And when we deplete this bank account completely, we are going to the other bank account, your piggybank– your savings. Now these ‘savings’ is your body fat. That’s your savings.

How does a protein diet work?

A protein diet works because there are little to no carbohydrates in our food intake, so our body is going to go to our body fat, ‘savings account’, to burn it for energy. But, we don’t want to starve ourselves, so instead of carbs, we are going to replace it with protein. ( Hence the name : Protein Diet )

Difference with the classical diet

In the classical diet we are going to eat less during the day. The relation between carbs, fats, and proteins will stay the same, but we are just going to reduce our food intake. But, in the protein diet, we are going to eat less carbohydrates and fats and replace them with protein. In other words, we are screwing with the normal relationship of carbohydrates, fats, and protein, that a normal meal would’ve consisted of. The key idea with this diet is also: To lose weight, you need imbalanced meals!

Why protein?

Protein is an important nutrition, needed for building, repairing and maintaining tisse in the body. Typical of a classical diet is losing muscle mass, this is an effect when your body has a deficit of protein.  With a protein diet, the typical reaction of the body is called “Ketosis”. After 2 à 3 days, your body will start burning fats, since there are no carbohydrates to burn. This releases ketones, and these will help burn fat for energy, and it reduces your hunger! So when following this diet you will feel less hungry, unlike the typical diet, which is basically starving yourself.

This stuff works people, I myself followed a dutch protein diet called: ‘Het Mentale Dieet Plan‘ , and I lost over 10 KG–without rebound. I’m still on the same weight ever since.
