When you’re sweating like a pig for the slightest activity, such as walking for a block or just riding a bus, you have to wonder why your body seems to overreact to such a dismal action. Maybe, you’re suffering from hyperhidrosis, a condition that affects 2.8% of the world’s population. This condition, which is also commonly called as excessive sweating, involves the body’s unnecessary production of sweat. Doctors have come to the conclusion that hyperhidrosis is another idiosyncratic condition but there are those who believe that there are factors that trigger the body to produce superfluous sweat.

Unwarranted reactions to chosen foods and hot weather also seem to activate hyperhidrosis. People who have an affinity for hot and spicy foods are more likely to suffer from the said condition in the future whereas a scorching climate could also make you sweat wildly. This is due to the fact that your body must cool down when it reaches its peak.

In matters of physiological functions, experts on sweating also blame hyperhidrosis on abnormal functions of the spinal cord, nerves and the brain. A simple deviation may cause drastic effects on your sweat glands. A wrong stimulus sent by the nerves, uncontrolled response of the spinal cord on sweating and wrong information processed by the brain may cause you to sweat like tomorrow is Armageddon. Usually, anomalies such as these will be corrected through surgical intervention.

Doctors also believe that emotions and obesity have significant effects on hyperactive sweat glands. When a person is anxious or excited, the tendency to sweat is amplified compared to a calm or relaxed person. An obese person also sweats a lot because they have double the amount of toxins that the body wants to excrete. The more obese you are, the higher the chances of you developing very industrious sweat glands.

Excessive sweating may seem like a condition that cannot be treated aside from causing social and psychological discomforts. But the truth is, it can be treated and managed with various interventions. You don’t have to go on with your life dealing with sweaty palms and armpits as long as you know how to control your sweat glands.
