Many people have experienced some form of depression at one time or another and would have loved to know how to overcome depression as quickly as possible.  There are cases where professional intervention is warranted but for the majority of cases three simple tips will help a great deal.

One:  Get proper sleep.  This one is tricky because it’s not just about sleeping a lot.  Getting the right kind of sleep is as important as or more important than just sleeping a bunch.  It’s important to maintain schedules when you are depressed in order to put as many things on auto pilot as possible.  Going to sleep at the same time every night and getting up at the same time every morning will be very helpful.  Getting the correct amount is also important.

Sleeping twelve hours per day can be counterproductive where as getting three hours is obviously not enough.  Making sure your sleep environment is conducive to sleep is also necessary.  Minimize bright lights and loud noises as much as possible.  Getting the right amount of sleep will lay the foundation for overcoming depression.

Two:  Eat a proper diet.  This is something that people debate to death yet is quite simple.  We may not have perfected the perfect diet but everyone knows enough to do better than they do.  Here’s one example of how we know when to differentiate.  What is better, cake or broccoli?  Another aspect of eating properly is knowing how much to eat.  There is a wide range of calories that people need but again, people know the basics.

Eating once per day is not going to cut it; however, eating all day long is extreme as well.  Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and supplement your vitamins if necessary.  Drinking a half a gallon or more of water per day is what most people need but most people drink much less.

Three:  Exercise.  This is perhaps the most effective form of helping to overcome depression.  The reason this is listed last is because if you are not sleeping well or eating well then you aren’t really in a position to exercise very effectively.  Exercise can literally change you brain chemistry.  Your brain will actually improve its chemical make-up with exercise.  Many people overcome depression with this one tip alone.

Regardless of your situation you will be helped with these tips.  Even those who are on medication have either gone of it altogether or at least cut back their dosages.  Some people will need medication to help depression no matter what, for everyone else who would like to overcome depression follow these tips for ninety days and you will see improvement.
