Top 3 Sore Throat Remedies
I was never a fan of sore throat. Sure, there may be worse diseases out there that are far more painful and even life-threatening but when I was a kid, sore throat was the common disease I hated the most. I had to miss school and I could hardly even talk without feeling pangs of pain engulf my throat. I also had to endure a low-grade fever and an aching body that emerged out of nowhere. Oftentimes, I may also have a headache, a runny nose, a cough, watery eyes and continual sneezing. Although I loved the fact that I didn’t have to think of homework for a day, I hated feeling sickly when I had a sore throat. When I grew up, I thought I would outgrow all of the hassles of sore throat. I was wrong! Fortunately though, I still remembered the sore throat remedy my mom gave me while I was down with the said condition. So if you’re looking for easy and effective home treatment for sore throat, here are the top three sore throat remedies I have tried, tested and proven to be extremely good.
My Sore Throat Remedies
1. Gargle. Gargling will not only help rehydrate your throat, it will also ease the itchiness and the pains that are making you feel uncomfortable. There are five different concoctions you can use to gargle. The first one is with sage, which you can do by mixing 1 teaspoon of it with a cup of boiling water. Allow to simmer for ten minutes, strain and add a teaspoon of honey and vinegar. You need to use this mixture at least four times a day. Another concoction you can gargle with is raspberry tea, which you can also drink to help relieve fever. However, it is important that you separate the tea you use for gargling and the one you will use as a drink.
You can also gargle with warm saltwater. This does not only help reduce the itchiness and pain, it also helps dissolve the phlegm in cough. You can also gargle with turmeric, which you can do simply by mixing half a teaspoon of turmeric, half a teaspoon of salt and a cup of water. You need to use this at least twice a day. The last but definitely not least concoction to gargle with is Listerine mouthwash which has antibacterial properties to help kill the bacteria at the back of your throat.
2. Make use of citrus. This is basically a double purpose sore throat remedy. Not only are these fruits rich in vitamin C, which can strengthen your immune system, it is also very soothing to your throat. Since you can’t really eat a lot of with sore throat, you have the option of simply sipping lemon juice or drinking lime juice. Use warm water when making these juices and combine with honey or sugar to taste.
3. Use the power of steam. Steaming helps open up your nasal passages and encourage more drainage. You can create a steam tent simply by putting hot water in a bowl, positioning your face over the bowl in an appropriate distance and covering your head with a towel in order to avoid the steam from escaping. You can also add one or two drops of eucalyptus oil, chamomile or lavender oil for revitalization and relaxation purposes.
Choose one sore throat remedy when you’re feeling the pain and itchiness on your throat or use all three together. They are not only effective in relieving your sore throat, they are also natural and very safe to use.
